Round 1 at The Gate
Rounds 1 and 2 were run last weekend at The Gate in Brunswick Ohio. The event saw the debut of the CRC WTF1 chassis in UF1 competition fielded by CRC factory driver Bryan Wynn, as well as Ron Mick, Stuart Patrick, and Mike Pizzuti.
Saturday was pretty much a demonstration of the WTF’s capabilities in the hands of Wynn as he claimed Position and swept the three 15 minute mains. Erik Wippler and Dave Johnson rounded out the podium with strong runs between them.
Sunday dawned and saw a change in the pole winner , this time Wippler piloting a Tamiya F104W GP chassis would lead the field on the tone.
Wynn encountered some minor issues during the first main as Wippler led wire to wire for the win. Wynn rebounded to close out the final two mains in first and create a tie in points for the day. Wippler and Speed Passion driver Rob King completed the podium. Wynn leads the standings over Wippler 600-596 going into the next round at the Alpharing in Carbondale.
Overall the turnout was strong considering the beautiful Indian Summer weather outside. 16 cars took the grid on Saturday and 13 were still on track at the end of Sundays program.
As stated earlier the series will resume on October 25th and 26th after a brief hiatus for the IFMAR Worlds and IIC in Las Vegas.
Thanks to all the teams that made the trip to the Gate and thanks to series sponsors Alpha Property Management, Tuning Haus, and F1 R/CLAB
